Mercedes are on a big drive to attract younger buyers and the C-Class shows how and where they are doing that. They must also be mindful of their existing broad base of owners, so they had to find a way of attracting both with this. So they created different looks for different generations with the three-point star planted in the centre of the grille for ‘younger’ versions and the classic badge mounted on the bonnet for their more traditional customers. The interior is roomy with space for five and there is ample leg/head room. It feels luxurious thanks to the good-quality materials. Dials and buttons are neatly laid out and easy to use. On the road, the handling and steering are excellent. It can take sharp bends with ease thanks to the traction control stepping in to keep body roll to a minimum. There are powerful engines, especially diesels, and they all do well on emissions and fuel economy.
