This generation of the Mazda 2 was a real game-changer when it went on sale in 2007. It is a compact and fuel efficient supermini. Even though it is around 10cm shorter than its rivals, space in the cabin has not been affected and there is still plenty of leg and head room. It’s a good looking little car, with a practical interior. There’s also a generous level of standard equipment. This does well on the road and is comfortable on city streets or on the open road with good ride quality. There are four engines: the 73bhp 1.3-litre and 101bhp 1.5-litre petrol, which return around 52 and 49 miles to the gallon respectively. Then there are two diesels; the 1.4-litre and the 1.6-litre which manage impressive 65 and 67 miles to the gallon returns respectively.
